    An 18-year-old Tecumseh woman said a stranger reached into her vehicle
    and grabbed her while she was parked at the downtown Ann Arbor post office
    Monday, city police reported.

    Fire

    Two dozen apartment tenants near the University of Michigan
    central campus were evacuated by an early morning fire Sunday,
    but no one was seriously hurt.

    Firefighters found smoke and extinguished the fire.
    The fire is under investigation with a possible cause being
    an appliance malfunction, fire officials said.

    Multiple Break-ins

    Several apartments in a student rental home were entered between
    Monday and Wednesday (12/28). Someone entered off an unlocked
    fire escape and kicked down three doors. In one apartment,
    a guitar and computer processor valued at $450 were taken,
    police said. It\'s not yet known what was taken from the
    other apartments because the residents have not returned,
    reports said.

    1 a.m. Tuesday. No signs of forced entry to apartment
    clubhouse; lock was cut to the security gate, but
    nothing appeared to be missing.

    Ann Arbor firefighters found smoke pouring from
    the residence upon arrival at about 1:20 p.m. Friday (12/16),
    said Battalion Chief Robert Vogel. A woman was the
    only person inside the home at the time and was
    looking for her cats before firefighters pulled
    her from the structure.

    A vehicle was driven into a retention pond on
    the south side of Briarwood Circle near Briarwood Mall
    late Wednesday night, police said.

    Break-in

    Occurred between 12:30 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m.
    Monday (12/19). Small window smashed out to gain
    entry to a storage shed at Arbor Crest Cemetery;
    air compressor and chainsaw taken. Total value: $1,350.

    The incident at the mini-mart at 7:30 p.m. (12/26) was captured on video
    and showed a man in dark clothing swiping cigarettes and lighters,
    reports said. The dumbbell was used to break glass on an entrance door,
    and the intruder reached inside and unlocked the door, reports said.

    Sexual Assault

    A 16-year-old Ann Arbor girl said a fellow patron
    at a downtown coffee shop groped her as he announced
    it was his birthday Monday, city police reported.
    She said she tried to walk by and the man got "uncomfortably close,"
    then reached and grabbed her buttocks, reports said.

    Assault

    The clerk at an Amoco station saw a couple outside
    arguing and yelling profanities at each other around
    7 p.m. Monday (12/19), reports said. He said the man
    then threw down the gas nozzle, so the clerk said he went
    outside to see if it was damaged, reports said.

    A 20-year-old Ann Arbor man was beaten unconscious
    during a house party early Saturday, city police reported.

    Ann Arbor Police raided a massage parlor on allegations
    of prostitution Friday afternoon, officials said.

    Attempted Hold-up

    A man approached a woman shopping in the toy
    department of the Meijer store, at about 5 p.m.
    Friday, and demanded her purse and money. He implied
    that he had a weapon, according to police. The
    woman yelled for help and the man fled. Police
    searched for the man but could not find him.

    A 44-year-old Ann Arbor man was charged with aggravated
    domestic assault after his girlfriend said he punched her
    while they were driving Friday evening, city police said.

    Domestic Violence

    Ann Arbor Police arrested a man accused of holding
    a knife to his wife\'s throat Wednesday, less than
    three weeks after the couple married. A resident in the
    800 block of South Maple Road called police around
    10:30 p.m. and said she saw a man fighting with a woman
    in a parked car outside. The man held a knife to her throat
    and pointed it at her, reports said. Police arrested the man.

    A 15-year-old boy returned from school Monday afternoon (12/19)
    and interrupted a burglary at his family\'s Ann Arbor home, city police said.
    The boy told police he walked up to his home at 2:40 p.m. and saw a man leaving
    the residence, reports said. The man may have been scared off by a postal worker, reports said.
    The front door of the home was pried open, and the burglar made off with jewelry,
    cash, DVDs, video and digital cameras and a jacket. The stolen items were valued at $12,780,
    according to police.

    and Thursday. Plexiglas window broken, then several interior
    doors kicked and pried open; among stolen items were a TV, DVDs,
    Sony PlayStation II, cash and a digital camera. Total value: $2,380.

    Sometime between Friday through Wednesday (12/28). When
    residents returned, they discovered someone entered
    through a second-story window off the fire escape,
    reports said. A computer screen, DVD player, LCD
    15-inch screen and keyboard were missing.
    The total value was $1,100.

    garage; the vehicle was entered and money was taken.

    Attempted robbery victim said would-be robber demanded her money
    but she threatened to scream and he ran off.

    A 39-year-old Dexter woman was bilked out of $4,500
    Thursday at the Westgate shopping center in Ann Arbor
    during a scam that police say also occurred about
    a year ago.
